Coaching Positions

  • Santiam Christian is seeking to hire bus drivers.

    * Route Drivers * Substitute Drivers * Activity Drivers

    Tuition Discount available for route drivers.

    Duties:

    * Route Driver - Daily am/pm assigned route in our service area

    * Sub Driver - On-call for am/pm bus routes

    * Activity Driver - Regular or on-call for activities and sports

    Drivers must have or be able to obtain a CDL License. We will provide guidance throughout the CDL process. The cost is paid by the driver.

    We provide hands-on driver training.

    PRIMARY FUNCTION:
    To develop Christian athletes while implementing an exemplary Softball program that will effectively and relentlessly pursue victory without sacrificing Christ like character.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Applicant should be a strong Christian leader with integrity 

    2. Applicant must have coaching experience and a desire to mentor young athletes

    3. Applicant should have three excellent references.

    REPORTS TO: Athletic Director

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    A. Professional Performance

    1. To lead the SC Softball program in a Godly and competitive manner.

    2. To coach the Varsity Softball team towards victory.

    3. To be the Softball Program Director – Managing all levels of Softball at SC from elementary level to the varsity Softball team.

    4. To comply with school and school board policies and regulations.

    5. To comply with Santiam Christian High School League policies and regulations.

    6. To comply with and understand OSAA rules and regulations. Violation of these rules could result in fines and suspensions for the Softball program, athletes and the school.

    7. To work cooperatively with the entire athletic staff.

    8. To maintain good public relations with media, board members, parents, officials, players, fans, and school administration.

    9. To demonstrate professional growth.

    10. To be prompt and accurate with required paperwork, communications records and reports.

    11. To provide game results to the media, and OSAA.  As well as maintain a SC Softball social media page.

    12. To demonstrate leadership skills and Godly characteristics

    13. To accept responsibilities outside the Softball team as they relate to the school and community.

    14. To assume responsibility for care of materials, equipment and facilities. 

    15. To keep updated inventory of all Softball equipment and uniforms.

    16. To be responsible for game day set-up and clean-up of the facilities.

    17. To assume responsibility for a clean, safe environment for student-athletes committed to the coach’s care.

    B. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Responsible for the overall supervision and development of the entire program. 

    2. Responsible for time required for off-season, summer and in-session practice and competition. 

    3. Responsible for the hiring of assistant and lower level coaches (with Athletic Director approval), and acting as a liaison between Athletic Director and coaching staff.

    4. Responsible for monitoring the assignments, duties and required training/certifications of coaching staff. 

    5. Responsible for overseeing and operating the youth Softball program in collaboration with the Athletic Director.

    6. Responsible for overseeing and maintaining the program budget, which includes oversight of budget accounts, ASB accounts and submitting an annual budget to the Athletic Director. 

    7. Responsible for the general upkeep, inventory and protection of equipment and facilities under the jurisdiction of the program.

    8. Responsible for safety and security of the team before, during and after program events. 

    9. Maintain ongoing communication with the Athletic Director regarding any developments in the program, including injuries, complaints or concerns. 

    10. Report any unsafe conditions to the Athletic Director and/or Facilities Director. 

    11. Positively promote the program and the Santiam Christian Athletic Department by: 

      1. Attending all athletic department meetings and specified events 

      2. Creating and preparing the team for non-league contests and tournaments 

      3. Establishing positive relationships with local athletics organizations, booster groups, foundations and community members 

      4. Monitoring the scholastic eligibility and conduct of athletes 

      5. Modeling and promoting behaviors which promote sportsmanship and Santiam Christian School values at all times 

    12. Responsible for obtaining Athletic Director approval of spirit pack designs prior to ordering. 

    13. Responsible for overseeing distribution and payments for spirit packs; money collected to cover cost of spirit packs are submitted for deposit into the correct athletic account. 

    14. Responsible for making sure each athlete is fully eligible to participate prior to his/her participation/tryout. 

    15. Responsible for submitting any requests for non-league schedules, early dismissals and transportation needs to the athletic department. 

    16. Act as the first line of communication with parents and student-athletes. 

    17. Be a conduit of communication with all coaches within the program and the athletic department.

    C. Instructional Performance

    1. Interpersonal Relations:

      1. To practice and promote positive interaction with and among student-athletes, the school and community.

      2. To communicate well with parents and players about goals, expectations, evaluations, grades and any other forms of pertinent content.

      3. To demonstrate enthusiasm for coaching and learning.

      4. To demonstrate an interest in student-athletes and the overall athletic program.

      5. To encourage self-direction and self-motivation in students.

      6. To create clearly defined standards of behavior and academic performance.

      7. To empower and lead a coaching staff in a Christ-like manner

    2. Subject Matter:

      1. To demonstrate a firm grasp of Softball strategy and knowledge.

      2. To demonstrate an ability to articulate how one would organize a winning program while consistently pursuing Christ-like attributes.

      3. To demonstrate the ability to adjust instruction of strategy and fundamentals to student-athlete’s abilities, needs and interests.

    3. Planning/Materials:

      1. To maintain an organized Softball program based on effective long-range plans.

      2. To exhibit evidence of effective planning and organization. (i.e. practice plans) 

      3. To utilize a variety of appropriate strategies and resources.

    4. Techniques/Delivery:

      1. To communicate fundamental coaching expectations and its importance to athletes and coaches.

      2. To utilize appropriate and varied coaching techniques and learning activities.

      3. To maintain an effective system of monitoring student progress and to keep appropriate persons informed.

    5. Program Management:

      1. To plan and organize game volunteers for needs such as: Score clock, announcer, libero tracker, scorebook, gym set-up and tear down and any other game day needs as directed by the Athletic Director.

      2. To maintain discipline appropriate for an athletic and professional environment.

      3. To use positive reinforcement and constructive criticism to maintain good student discipline.

      4. Be responsible to hire and manage asst. coaches

      5. To evaluate asst. coaches as well as other coaches in lower level Softball programs.

    D. Job Qualifications and Competencies

    1. Requires successful experience in playing the sport of Softball in either: 

      1. Organized community, High School, Collegiate, Professional, or 

      2. Successful experience in coaching the sport of Softball

    2. Requires that all prior experience as an athletic coach resulted in positive conduct and no disciplinary action. 

    3. Requires the ability to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position and to accomplish its objectives. 

    4. Requires knowledge of the rules and regulations of the sport, policies and practices of Santiam Christian High School and regulations of the league/district in which Santiam Christian participates, the PACWest or Special District and the standards of ethical conduct of interscholastic athletic team programs. 

    5. Perform other duties as assigned.
