A letter from Steve Roderick on the announcement of the new Superintendent, Mr. Lance Villers
closeSC Board President Announcing for the Superintendent Search
I am pleased to announce that Mr. Lance Villers, currently superintendent of Custer County School District in Westcliffe, Colorado, has accepted the position of superintendent of Santiam Christian Schools. Mr. Villers will begin his tenure at Santiam Christian on July 1, 2012.
Mr. Villers has been superintendent of Custer County School District, a 525 student rural K-12 public school district in Westcliffe, Colorado for 6 years. Prior to that posting, Mr. Villers was principal of the Custer County Secondary School and taught middle school math at Custer County. Mr. Villers also spent five years teaching math, science, algebra and computers and was the math department chair at Pinon Mesa Middle School in Phelan, CA. He also has experience coaching football, wrestling, track and basketball. He is a member of the Colorado Commissioner of Education Advisory Council, Colorado Rural Schools Caucus Steering Committee, and Colorado High School Activities Association. In addition to his experience in K-12 education, Mr. Villers was the director, manager and financial officer of Horn Creek Christian Conference Center in Westcliffe for four years. Mr. Villers is a member of a local church in Westcliffe where he regularly delivers the Sunday sermon. Mr. Villers and his wife, Gretchen, have three children who will all attend Santiam Christian Schools next school year.
Please join me in welcoming Mr. Villers and his family to Santiam Christian. Mr. Baker, the board, and the search committee are very pleased that Lance, Gretchen and their children will become part of the Santiam Christian family. Over the next several months, the board and the administrative team will begin to work with Mr. Villers on a transition plan and establish an opportunity for you to meet him and his family.
I want to express my thanks to the search committee who put in many hours selecting a search firm, developing the key search documents, reviewing applications, interviewing candidates, and arriving at a consensus on the best person to lead Santiam Christian. It was apparent throughout the search process that God was in control and that Mr. Villers’ selection was His choice. It is so uplifting to, once again, see and feel God’s hand in the business of Santiam. It is clear that God has a plan for Santiam Christian and it is clear that Mr. Villers is God’s choice to lead us forward. If you have a chance, please thank the members of the search committee, who are listed below:
Tim Eby (Faculty)
Forrest Reid (Board)

Special thanks go to Jill Martinson who led efforts to create special opportunities for corporate prayer over the search process and to the Moms-in-Touch prayer group for including the search process in their weekly prayer times. I know that their efforts were instrumental in the success of the search process.
I also want to thank the many people who helped coordinate and manage the meetings, interviews and events that supported this important work. I want to make you aware of these individuals so that you can personally thank them as well:
I am sure I missed naming some people who helped during this year-long process. If that is you, please accept my apologies and know that your Father in heaven knows of your efforts and His blessing will be upon you.
Many thanks also to our search firm, SIMA International. In particular, Laura Coverstone and Ed Poff were wonderful partners in this process, both with the work of sourcing and vetting candidates and partnering with us in prayer.
If you have any questions regarding the search process that we followed, I would refer you to our web pages (http://www.santiamchristian.org/eagle-families/superintendentsearch.cfm). These pages include a great deal of detailed information regarding this important process. Should you have additional questions, please contact Mike Green, Search Committee Chair, via the contact information noted there.
