Elementary

Santiam Christian Elementary School seeks to create a challenging learning environment that encourages high expectations for success through faith and development-appropriate instruction that allows for individual differences and learning styles.

Our school promotes a caring, safe, orderly, and supportive Christian environment. Each student's self-esteem is fostered by positive relationships with students and staff. We strive to have our parents, teachers, and community members actively involved in our students' learning.

Kindergarten

Santiam offers both half day and full day Kindergarten options. The goal of Kindergarten is to provide the child with the basic tools necessary for a successful experience in elementary school. The class is centered around a phonetic approach to reading and provides growing experiences in a number of areas such as math, science, computers, music, physical education, and art. Kindergarten students are given opportunities to explore the world around them as they grow in relation to God, teachers, and other classmates.

Elementary Level (Grades 1 - 6)

All students begin with a phonic approach to reading. Our daily curriculum consists of Bible, math, language arts, reading, spelling, science, and history. Additional enrichment courses provided throughout the week include: computers, art, music, physical education, library, as well as corporate worship through a weekly chapel service. A supplemental reading program called Accelerated Reader (AR) is implemented throughout the school. The AR program encourages reading across all grade levels and is incorporated into the student’s reading grade. More specific information is available through the classroom teacher and/or the school library. In emphasizing a program of strong academics, it is our desire to use both methods and curriculum materials that are consistent with our spiritual goals. Textbooks from Math in Focus, IEW, Bob Jones and other publishers are used throughout our program.

Elementary students (K-6) are enrolled on the basis of parents' desire for their child to attend. Each applicant is individually tested to determine the appropriate academic placement. Minimum ages for enrollment are as follows:

  • Kindergarten entrance -- 5th birthday before September 1
  • 1st grade entrance -- 6 years old before September 1
  • (Exceptions handled on an individual case basis)

Santiam Christian Library Information

Elementary Library Hours: 7:30 am to 3:30 pm

When you come into our library, we hope you find that it’s a welcoming, warm place for your children to enjoy. Our hope is to instill a love of reading throughout the elementary school and to make the library the center of learning.

We have over 15,000 books and are always updating and buying books throughout the year. All Elementary classes are scheduled to visit the library each week in order to have the opportunity to check out books, learn to navigate effectively in the library, and develop a life-long love for reading. Our school also participates in the Accelerated Reader program to help your children read at a level that they will feel successful at.

Preschool and Kindergarten are able to check out books each week for a one week period. 1st grade thru 6th grade are able to check out books each week for a two week period.  A wide range of subjects are available to help enhance classroom curriculum and our knowledge of Biblical truth as well as many titles for just plain fun reading.

Parents will be notified thru Renweb of books that have not been returned in a timely manner. Please help us in getting books returned on time to help in the development of good stewardship.

Reading is fun and exciting!  We look forward to seeing your children  and helping them find books they will enjoy as well as helping them to reach their reading goals!
